Our cherry varieties:
Enjoy learning about the many varieties of delicious cherries we grow. Look for them in stores every May and June.
Bing
- Availability: Mid-May – Mid-June
- Growing Region: Lodi, California
- Profile: The most popular of all cherry varieties and Rivermaid’s leading variety by volume, the Bing has dark red-mahogany colored skin. It is generally larger than other popular varieties. It is very firm (even crisp), very sweet and juicy.
Rainier
- Availability: Late May – Mid-June
- Growing Region: Lodi, California
- Profile: The Rainier is recognizable by its beautiful, unique golden-pink blush skin color. It is a very sweet, but delicately firm cherry.
Brooks
- Availability: Early May – Late May
- Growing region: Southern Central Valley, California
- Profile: The Brooks variety is a large red cherry with a red skin and a reddish-pink flesh. It is sweet, rich and well balanced with a firmness close to that of the Bing. It is very tolerant of hot climates, which is why it is the first Rivermaid Trading Company variety to ripen in California’s Southern Central Valley.
Tulare
- Availability: Mid–May – Early-June
- Growing Region: Southern Central Valley, California
- Profile: The Tulare is an early season variety like the Brooks. It has a dark red color and sweet flavor although it does not have the firmness of the Bing.
Chelan
- Availability: Mid-May – Early June
- Growing Region: Southern Central Valley, California and Lodi, California
- Profile: A medium sized cherry with a mahogany red skin with dark flesh much like the Bing. It is not quite as sweet as the Bing but is an excellent eating cherry.
Coral
- Availability: Mid-May – Early June
- Growing Region: Southern Central Valley, California and Lodi, California
- Profile: The coral is a larger red cherry with dark flesh much like the Bing. It is a lower acid fruit, but with a sweetness similar to the Bing.
Garnet
- Availability: Mid-May – Early June
- Growing Region: Southern Central Valley, California and Lodi, California
- Profile: The garnet is an excellent eating, medium sized red cherry with a sweetness more subtle than the Bing.
