The characteristics if each pear variety do affect the process of ripening. All pears, when harvested at the correct maturity, ripen best when left at room temperature. The best advice is to check your pears each day and once the pears are just they way you like them, place them in the refrigerator to stop the ripening process and they will remain at your perfect level of ripeness for 2-3 days.

Remember … never place unripe pears in the refrigerator as the cold air will stop the ripening process.
